Description

IT'S ALIVE! AUTOMOTIVE is very proud to present this exceptional 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible in its factory-correct color combination of Regimental Red over a Medium Red interior & Black power folding convertible top. Decoding the trim tag on the firewall reveals that the car was completed at the Pontiac, Michigan works during the 5th week of March 1967. Accompanying the vehicle today are a full set of documents from Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) including a copy of the original build receipt showing the car internally invoiced on April 11th 1967, while a reproduction window sticker confirms the car was delivered new to Kirkland Motor Co. Inc of Montgomery, Alabama.

In the summer of 2019, the GTO was brought to IT'S ALIVE! in project form. Under our care the 400ci V8 engine was removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled. The accompanying invoice for the machine work, parts & assembly totaled over $3000.00 and is available on request. Interior appearance was refreshed with new carpet, new seat covers, door cards and more. The vehicle's electrical system was completely overhauled while authentic reproduction lenses are noted throughout including new T3 headlamps. Operation of the power convertible top was restored to work as designed. The restored headrests were covered and professionally died to match the remaining interior vinyl. Missing interior & exterior trim was sourced and restored as needed while a plethora of other parts were replaced with authentic reproductions from Ames Performance Engineering. The 15” Rally II Wheels were fitted with a new set of Deluxe Wheel Discs (trim rings), while new PMD Center Caps are accented by authentic “red dot” wheel lugs. The Pontiac rides on four new, P235/60R15 98T tires with a period correct, 3/8” redline. Between May of 2019 and March of 2022, our in-house team invested nearly $40,000.00 in parts & labor bringing the GTO to an excellent standard. Receipts for which are available on request.

The aforementioned PHS reproduction window sticker confirms the GTO was a highly optioned car from new. Careful inspection of the GTO reveals a high level of authenticity with the fitment of several upgrades. The 400ci block does display the 1967-only casting number of 9786133 towards the firewall, the stamped suffix code of “YS” on the front of the block indicates that said engine was originally fitted to a GTO with one less pedal. Sitting atop the 400ci V8 block is a 1966 only 9782898 cast iron intake fed by three dual barrel Rochester carburetors. While “three deuces” was not an option for 1967, automotive author Peter C. Sessler noted in his 1992 GTO Red Book that “A small number of Tri-Power engines were built and installed on early 1967 GTOs before a corporate ban on multiple carburetion took effect.” While this example was not one of those “early” cars, this gives credence that a 1967 GTO with Tri-Power is period correct. 1967-only cylinder heads with 670 casting numbers tie the 6.6 Liter V8 to the High Output dual exhaust system with 2.25” tailpipes. A stamped date code of P7C23 on the MUNCIE 4-speed corresponds to March 23rd 1967. The 10-bolt rear end displays the 1967 casting number of 9783393 (though the first 3 is omitted) and the rear end date code of C237 also corresponds to the 23rd of March 1967. Meaning that the gearbox & the rear end housing are not only correct, but indeed could be original to the car!

Period upgrades include power steering and front disc brakes for added drivability. The latter requiring the need for 15” wheels instead of the 14” units originally fitted to the car. A performance Aluminum radiator was fitted to keep the engine cool on warm summer days while a modern KENWOOD AM/FM CD head unit with AUX & USB connectivity is “hidden” in the glove compartment. The original PONTIAC Push-Button AM Radio still resides in the dash and the optional DELCO 8-track cassette player still accompanies the car today! With an incredibly high level of detail, rare & desirable factory options, period-correct & modern upgrades this classic Pontiac will have you singing Go Go GTO all the way down the main drag or the drag strip! Perhaps the famous lyrics first coined by Ronnie & the Daytonas should have been “Three deuces and a four speed and a four hundred!” No doubt this legendary Pontiac will turn heads wherever she goes with her iconic lines and V8 sound that birthed the era of the American Muscle Car.
